A New Look...What Do You Think

Did I just get bored with the old look or was it past time to freshen the blog's layout? I wanted something a bit bolder and cleaner-looking.

Is this it?

I'm anxious for your feedback. I can easily switch back or do some fine-tuning. But, like almost everything in life after awhile if something remains unchanged it just begins to blend into the background.

For a blog that can spell problems.

So....tell me what you think of this look for Satisfying Retirement.

  2. Bob, this does nothing for me. I loved the beautiful ocean view when I came to your site

    1. Thanks for the feedback. That was a pretty picture from Maui.

  3. The blue on black is a tiny bit difficult to read on the sidebars, and the font size in the body of the post is WAY too tiny for my eyes!! Great idea to tweak, but the other style was easier to read.. maybe a few more experiments till it's fresh but easy to read, also!? Or, maybe I just need new glasses!!!!

    1. I have adjusted the text size back to where it was (Verdana 14 pt)lightened the background a bit. Does that help?

  4. I like the new look Bob. As you say it is bolder and cleaner. The only suggestion I might have is to make the background a little lighter tone. Being so dark it makes the post area almost glare.

So, you also get bored when things don't change often enough. It is nice to know that I am not alone. :) Already I have forgotten what your old background was; I know it was a picture but...

    1. I have lightened the background slighly but I want to have the posts be the first thing that hits your eye so I don't want to go too light (which I think was one of the things about the old design I wasn't happy with).

Can you see a difference? If not I can go one more minor shade lighter.

  5. I like this and as far as change I think "explorers" like change! Nothing wrong with your other format just enjoy seeing new ideas.I am grateful as my eyes age that even with specs tiny doesn't cut it....with this I can read with bare eyes wooo hooo

    1. Thanks, lita1857! I'll take all comments into consideration and live with this new look for awhile. Switching back takes about 10 seconds.

BTW, did you get hit by the big snowstorm last weekend? Rochester is a pretty snowy place. I know...I spent 6 years in Syracuse.

  6. Bob, Looks good. A lot more modern; a keeper.

    1. I didn't watch the Grammy awards Sunday night..I didn't know any of the artists. I guess if I am modern it will have to be here!

      Thanks, Chuck.

  7. I also like the new look. Change CAN be a good thing! Because my eyes are not so hot, the large type is good.

As for the Grammys, I'm behind. Way behind. I do know Adele, but that's about it. One of my friends (age 65) despairs of me, I'm so "out of it!" lol

    1. I think Elton John was on the Grammys...there is a name I know. Otherwise, no recognition. I think I should spend some time listening to new music. I remember listening to Mumford & Sons (?) at some point and liked them. Hold it...were they on the Grammys? Then, I knew two names!

    2. I like it........and as someone who was forced to watch with her son, they do still make real rock and roll. Check out the group the Black Keys.

  8. Dark side bars with dark lettering are hard to read. The darkness overpowers the central blog. My blog is going less cluttered on the main page, removed ads and will soon move all other information to "pages" with just a few buttons on main page.

    I like simplicity.

    1. I understand what you are saying about the dark lettering. The original template did have a darker blue lettering for the sidebars which I modified to what you see now. Does that light blue still qualify as too dark?

  9. I like the clean look and like the charcoal better than the red. The only thing I would do is maybe add an image or put a slide show of some of Betty's photos from your trips on the side bar.

Change is good! Keeps you on your toes.

    1. The slide show for the side bar is a great idea. We have so many excellent pictures already and each RV trip adds fresh ones.

I'll see what Blogger will let me do.

    2. Would like a litttle lighter background, but the content is the important part. Keep up the good work. (How's the guitar coming?)

    3. The guitar has slipped a bit becasue I have been focused on other things. Thanks for the reminder. I'll go pick it up now.

      Hi Bob,
I like the new look. The new look is a refreshing change. Thank you. Steve

  11. Sorry, Bob! I liked the original blog design better. This one is somehow hard on my eyes. Blue is my favorite color, but this teal/blue you're using now for titles and headlines is hard for me to focus on.

    Cheers.

    1. Thanks for weighing in, Alex. I have tweaked the size of the type on the side bars to make them a little larger. Maybe that will help.

  12. And I thought you had just cut your hair a little different! LOL

  13. I guess by now you've tweaked a few things. But the new design gets a thumbs up from me. Clean, sharp, simple; easy to read.

    1. Thanks, Tom. Yes, I am about ready to leave it alone for now. Barbara made an excellent suggestion: put a slide show of Betty's photos on one of the sidebars. That is a suggestion I will pursue.

  14. The design looks much better with the soft grey than the black I saw originally. One thought for the future is to come up with your own logo for Satisfying Retirement. Why not? An idea to munch on?

    1. Definitely an idea to think about. Any graphic artists out there want to submit something for me to consider? I'll even pay for a great look.
